POP UP CAKES BY KATIE

POP UP CAKES ARE IN! above photo features from left to right - Katie demonstrating, Eileen S, Linda K, Rebecca G, a glimpse of Hsiao-hui L, and the back of Sharon's head.

Katie Ford was a guest demonstrator at class this past Thursday. Here she is demonstrating how to make the pop up cakes using the BIG SHOT POP UP CAKE DIE. Featured in the photo from left to right is Jen R., Pat N, Cathy S. and Paulette H. You can catch the back of Sharon's head. Sharon was hostess for the night and brought some delicious treats and drinks. Katie Ford is demonstrating.

These are some of the pop up cakes that Katie made and demonstrated at class this past thursday. The class was a CELEBRATE SPECIAL OCCASIONS CLASS. The above card uses the JUST BEACHY set from the new occasions mini. She used pacific point card stock for the water and cut swirls with the BIG SHOT so swirly. Isn't this clever? The beach chair is from a retired SU! set called sparkling summer. So cool!

This particular cake made with the sweet always paper is the cake that everyone had a chance to make. She even used the swirly die to cut chocolate shavings. Fantastic idea! Do you like her idea for presentation on the cake platter?

Now if this isn't one of the most clever designs I have ever seen with the pop up? It is Santa ready to hop on down the chimney. Katie designed this and used the holiday stamp set - Jolliest Time of the Year. Wow! The chimney is great!

Katie also made 2 cards using the cake pop up. I didn't get the best photos of these, so Katie if you are reading this, please send me some photos. One of the cards featured a pop up grass mound and a guy golfing. Way cute! Also, she used the chef set and made a pop up cake card. I love them and sorry I can't show them today, they would be blurry on your eyes.

Here is the pop up die!

MY BLOG'S WORDLE

Is this not the coolest thing? I found this on the internet and thought it was really neat. It is word art. You can plug your blog in and it will design for you! This is one of my designs. I love it. I think it can also do other words and poems and the like. You've got to try it. Here is the link to try it.

Also...you can click the photo on the right hand side of my blog to go right to wordle. The link is this same photo and is underneath my order button and my feedblitz subscription!
Thanks to Lisa Chattergee, Patti Bennett and Donna Walts Bruffey for helping me to take a screenshot and getting a better photograph of my blog wordle.

WATERCOLOR REINKER WASH TECHNIQUE CARD

This is the technique card we are doing tonight in class. It is called the Watercolor Reinker Wash technique and a true "WOW!"
I copied the directions from Patti Bennett and somewhat cased her design. She has a nice video on her blog as well. Watercolor Re-Inker Wash Technique directions cased from Patti:
stamp rose image (from Fifth Avenue Floral Set) or any other floral image on Shimmery White cardstock using White Craft Ink
heat emboss with Clear or white Embossing Powder and the heat tool
generously spritz entire embossed image with water in a spray bottle - spray until there are puddles of water, not just wet paper
use an Aquapainter to dip into drops of classic reinker and just "touch" the tip of the Aquapainter/ink to each section of the rose - ink flows inside each section (because of the embossing) but will also blend nicely when you touch more than one color to a section
use 2 or 3 coordinating reinker colors in any combo you wish (classic ink)
We used: Pretty in Pink, Riding Hood Red, Tangerine Tango and Apricot Appeal on this sample
clean Aquapainter tip in between applying each color
let dry, cut out image and mount to card or project. They take approx. 30 to 40 minutes to dry - will vary by climate/weather.

GET WELL CARD FOR FRIEND'S MOTHER

The mother of one of my friends - Eileen S. - took a fall and hurt herself. Eileen has been running back and forth to NJ to help take care of her with her sister and other family members. I wanted to give her a card to take home to her mother.
click on photo to enlarge. I wanted to use the new watercolor reinker technique and actually watercolored the flower in the right hand bottom corner. First I embossed the stamp in white on shimmery white card stock (ooh, that card stock is so nice) and then colored with reinkers (later today, I'm going to post the directions - this is so cool!). I inked the same stamp in tangerine tango and regal rose and stamped the image all over the whisper white ultra smooth envelope. This floral image is from the stamp set Fifth Avenue Floral.

The base of the card is also whisper white ultra smooth card stock. Next I layered old olive textured card stock (on sale right now, buy three and get one free) and on top of that I die cut
and layered a top note die with the saleabration dsp. The sentiments are stamped in basic black. The Get Well is from an older retired stamp set. The sentiment on the card is from refuge and strength. The smaller flowers are from one of my new favorite stamp sets - wonderful watercolors. I accented all of the flowers with crystal effects.

SUE'S BIRDS - FABULOUS!

One of my dear SU! friends - Susan Ehrhardt made this tree with decorated chipboard birds for her mom for mother's day. I absolutely love this. She decorated each bird with designer paper and stampin write markers and made this beautiful bird tree.
Have you worked with our chipboard before? I made some cards in an earlier post for a SU! class. We used the owls. I love chipboard. It is easy to work with . You can use it naked or you can color it with paints, markers, glitter or designer paper. Chipboard adds dimension to any project to make it a true "wow".This is the chipboard set that Sue used. It is called On Board So Tweet.

Emboss Resist Card I CASED last week

I was over at my upline's home last week - Janet Wakeland- and found the original of this card in her rack. I'm not sure who made the original. I tweaked mine a bit by putting the white underneath the scalloped edge. I used a certainly celery card stock base and scallop edged the bottom. I stamped the bird from the ALWAYS set and embossed it in white. To get the resist, you take a sponge dauber and dab along the edge and on top of the bird. Wherever it is embossed, is resisted. The border color card stock is bashful blue, which goes so well with certainly celery. The leaves alternate the two colors and the "a" is stamped in bashful blue. I used the SU! circle and circle scallop punches as well. The sentiments are stamped in classic basic black ink. The grosgrain ribbon is white with striped bashful blue.

I can't wait to try some more of this technique.

CELEBRATE SPECIAL OCCASIONS CLASS - SNEAK PEEK

Thursday is the celebrate special occasions class. I am doing a special technique card for your flip file that night. We will be doing the Watercolor reinker Wash Technique that was the "WOW" at the Seattle SU! Regionals. I'm showing this sneak peek today to get you excited about the class. The roses are coming out super. I took the photo in the wee hours of the am so the roses may not be as vivid in this photo as they are in person.
I am so loving this technique and I think everyone is going to be really "wowed" by it like I am. I will show the finished technique card and give the directions on Thursday so don't peek if you want to see it first in class.

WEEKEND IN BALTIMORE WITH MY SISTER

My sister Teresa joined me in Baltimore last weekend. It was the Pediatric Academic Societies Annual Meeting and I decided to stay overnight downtown so that I could get up early each am to go to the meetings and not have to worry about driving in. Teresa got in on Saturday. I told her I had heard about this great restaurant in town called Fogo de chao a Brazilian churrascaria steakhouse. They serve some great steaks, chicken and other meat. As a scrapbooker, I love to take photos. Well, the family next to me beat me at this photo. They asked their server for a photograph with them and I thought, that is usually me asking for the photo, so of course we had to get one.
The way it works is that you can have as much meat as you want to eat. Each server has a different type of meat, could be chicken, fillet Mignon, steak, pork or some other great meat. Each person is given a chip that is placed on the table. Turn it green and you are served til your heart's content. Turn it red and they pass your table. We had fun flipping the chips over several times until we had tried everything.

When the server visits your table, you select rare, medium, well-done, etc. The meat you select is just right and very delicious.
Before you have your meat, you visit the salad bar. It is incredible. I only got a picture of this part of it, but it has everything you can imagine. I could have been happy with the salad bar alone. It was amazing and delicious. This photo captures the deli section. I was amazed at all of the different cheeses that were available. I tried not to each too much here so that I could enjoy the main course.

After the main courses, Teresa and I shared a birthday dessert. My birthday was in March and hers is in October. We don't get to visit each other that often, so this was definite cause for celebration. I love how they wrote happy birthday on the plate.

I really enjoyed the restaurant. Both of us were filled up and could hardly walk when it was time to go. Notice my chip at the end of the table by my left arm is a definite red!

After dinner we walked across the street to the Harbor. It was a little gray out that day but it was dry. I love it here. Wish I could visit more often. Sometimes there are clippers or large ships that guests can go onto.

This is the center for Marine Technology. There is a lot of scientific studies that are conducted here in Baltimore. They also have a great science center and Teresa and I headed over there at the end of the weekend to explore.

Teresa is a huge sports fan. We visited the sports and legends museum by Camden Yards on Sunday. They have some great displays of sports here in Maryland. Lots on the Orioles and Cal Ripken jr, the Ravens, Terps, Preakness, and other great sports legends. This is Teresa posing outside the ESPN Zone.

We saw a lot even though I spent a good majority of the weekend at the meetings learning a lot and catching up with colleagues that I haven't seen in awhile. Not sure when Teresa and I will get together again, but when we do, I know it will be lots of fun.

CARD FOR COWORKER

I made this card for a coworker and wanted to share it. I used certainly celery as the card base and then I stamped my images on whisper white ultra smooth card stock. I stamped the flourish and flowers from the SU! stamp set Baroque Motifs. I used certainly celery for the flourish and regal rose for the flowers. There is a strip of pink dsp along the top that I added next. The sentiment is from the level 1 hostess set God's Beauty. That is stamped in basic black. Before attaching the stamped card stock, I ran it through the Big Shot with an embossing folder. Love the results. If you want to do a raised or textured card stock, remember to stamp your images first and then run through the Big Shot otherwise, the images won't stamp efficiently. Oh, almost forgot, the bird is die cut from the sizzlet birds and blooms, a SU! exclusive.
The coworker I made this for is Olachi. She is one of our new pediatricians. She stayed up with me all night weds. into Thursday taking care of the NICU and I wanted to thank her and know that she is appreciated.
