For the Love of Scrapbooking

Good morning everyone! I am thrilled to be guest blogging here on MySigitalStudio.net. I am continually inspired by other people's work on here, so hope I can do the same for you today!

I decided to stick with my first love . . . scrapbooking! When I started scrapbooking 11 years ago I was a diehard glue stick and cardstock scrapbooker—give me buttons and ribbon and I was a happy girl! With three children I no longer can "keep up" like that, so I've "gone" digital with MDS—and haven't looked back! Even so, I DID want to add a few goodies and details to this first layout after I had it printed. Below is my complete finished layout.

I started with some DSP from the Beautiful Today Kit, lowered the opacity so it was a little more subtle, and then "stamped" a lot of the small triangles stamp across the background in Pool Party, Pistachio Pudding, Summer Starfruit, and Crisp Cantaloupe! Colors to make us think of spring and forget the cold and snow (rain where I live)! My sentiment, the swirly frame, and the frame around the picture come from the Hello Perfection download. Both the Beautiful Today and Hello Perfection kits are full of fun, fresh images and it was fun choosing what to use to compliment this adorable picture of my baby! So this is what I printed to start my layout off with.

I wanted the swirly frame to be Crisp Cantaloupe so I filled another 12" x 12" canvas with that color, stamped the frame and also added six more sentiments to that page to also get printed. At this point I told my husband I would need to buy an e-cutter . . . but he didn't fall for it!

To finish off my layout hybrid-style, I punched out some Sweet Sorbet DSP with my triangle punch and sewed them down using my sewing machine. I cut out my Crisp Cantaloupe frame and all six sentiments—by hand of course—remember the e-cutter was a no-go! I popped my frame and another photo up with Stampin' Dimensionals and finished it off with some linen thread and an In Color Boutique Deail. I wanted my Calypso Coral "HAPPY" to pop-up so after cutting all those letters out, I adhered several layers together and then stuck them to the page with Crystal Effects. I colored the edges with my Calypso Coral marker so they wouldn't be white. I finished off with a few gold sequins and called it done!
I am absolutely IN LOVE with the finished result! It is so cute!

My next layout is all MDS. I used the Retro Fresh DSP for this one along with assorted elements from both the Hello Perfection and Beautiful Today downloads. I also used some punches from older downloads on this one.

I actually used a layout I made a couple years ago as a starting off point. I just changed out the picture, DSP, stamps, and embellishments. Then, I changed up a few other elements, added a few things, took out a few things, added some freeform lines and hearts . . . and, voilà—a whole new layout that looks nothing like what I started with! Love that about MDS! While I love all the watercolor look in the Beautiful Today kit, I did  copied and pasted all my letters and words so they would be more readable against their backgrounds.

And then, because I was loving the Retro Fresh colors so much I simply couldn't stop myself, I took another layout that I had made a while ago as well and changed it up just like I did to the first one. Change the paper and a few elements, the picture, and there you have it!

I hope I've inspired you in some way or another. Maybe you can make your next layout a hybrid one! The colors with Stampin' Up! and My Digital Studio coordinate perfectly making it so fun and easy to do. Or, if you're daunted by the thought of creating a whole new layout from a blank canvas, take a fresh look at a layout you've already done and love, import it into your project and change it up a bit to make a whole new one! Sometimes that's all I need to get my creative juices flowing!
