This weekend was our REMARKABLE HOT RETREAT! I've been going to these since they started. I love them because I meet friends, new and old - laugh a lot, share good times, make great projects and scrapbook pages, visit with our team leader Janet Wakeland, and just have a really great time. The theme of the weekend was Christmas trees. Our group did a whole display in honor of those affected by Breast Cancer. Coincidentally, this weekend was the same weekend as the Komen Race for the Cure and our leader for the tree display - Sandi Haertig - is a 6 year Breast Cancer Survivor. There was a contest for best tree and we didn't win unfortunately, but we won for what we accomplished. We worked very hard on our tree display, so we were a little disappointed but we feel gratified to know that we have a really nice display to donate to the Cancer patients at the Infusion Center. Here are some photos of us and our display.
Our display is all about Strength and Hope which was the recent theme of the SU! Fundraiser that we participated in to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Our unifying theme was Always Hope - Stamping for Life. We had shirts made up to match and even our garland had the theme. These were made with SU! My Digital Studio.
This card tree was part of our display. The four of us each made cards for everyone at the Retreat to write inspirational messages to the patients. Sandi told us that it is really impt. to encourage the patients during their rough times as they receive their hopefully life saving treatments.
Sandi brought these wonderful letters of HOPE and the table cloth and I made the ribbon that went on the little pink tree and on the table. It matched our shirts.
This is Me, Sandi and Hsiao hui in our pink shirts.
We each individually decorated cones with Mica and then either ribbons, or butterflies or lollies, or stockings, all with the pink theme! We were very proud of what we accomplished!
For the smaller pink tree on the left, we had a basket of pink ribbons that the retreaters could write on. They placed names of loved ones - cancer survivors and those who may have succumbed. We took the names of all of those listed and individually named them and prayed over them at our Sunday am worship service.
This is the angel that Lisa made to go on top of our card tree. She made it with the new SU! scoring tool. Isn't this darling?
We all registered for the Komen Race for the Cure on Sandi's team COPT CARES. They raised about 10K for the race. We opted for the sleep in or snooze runner since we were going to be in Pa. Do you like our boas? By the way, we are wearing our race shirts and numbers.
